Dear Colleagues: It is with a heavy heart that we inform you of the passing of Dr. Floyd Rector. Floyd died last month at his home in Sausalito, after a long illness. He was 93 years old. 

The Department of Medicine’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) is both morally right and pragmatic: supporting a diverse environment in which all our people can do their best work allows us to perform better across all of our missions. While there is much more to do, we are proud of our efforts to build an environment where all our people are treated with dignity and respect. Below we share some highlights of our DEI work in the DOM.

Dear Colleagues, It is with a heavy heart that we inform you of the passing of a cherished colleague, Dr. Susan Runyan, a faculty member in the UCSF Division of Geriatrics and a member of the San Francisco VA Health Care System (SFVAHCS) Geriatrics, Palliative, and Extended Care Service Line. Sue passed away on January 2, 2023 after being admitted to an ICU in Seattle following an accident while on holiday.

Thou art a veritable beacon of knowledge and healing, a place where clinicians, researchers, and educators work together with tireless dedication and purpose. Divided into many divisions, each with its own focus and expertise, thou doth strive to understand more and do better, to conquer a wide range of medical conditions and diseases with all the tools of modern science.
