From the Director
Welcome to UCSF. It is an incredible place. If you are looking for an internal medicine residency program with a strong commitment to clinical excellence, education, scholarly activity, and deeply held values of health equity, public service and social justice, then UCSF is the right place for you!
The three-hospital system provides exposure to diverse patient populations and a wide-range of faculty, leading to an incredibly rich clinical experience. The extraordinary quality and diversity of the residents makes the UCSF medicine program a star amongst stars.
Beyond rigorous clinical training and an innovative curriculum, the program has a long history of its graduates becoming leaders in virtually every niche within internal medicine. Residents can choose categorical or primary care tracks, depending on their career goals. To provide personalized training and mentoring, we offer multiple pathways to all of our upper level residents. Whether your interests are in molecular medicine, health equity, medical education, global health, clinical research, or health leadership, there is a place for you. The pathways allow you to learn and grow with like-minded residents and faculty, while increasing opportunities for scholarship.
If you want to be inspired about what makes UCSF tick, check out the Core Mission statement that our residents developed this year. The core values of promoting justice & diversity, supporting individuals, learning purposefully, honoring humility and growing together resonate deeply with all of us at UCSF.
Residency is a time to learn clinical medicine, to try new things and to determine how one personally wants to improve the world. We provide outstanding educational opportunities in clinical and academic medicine while offering a tailored experience to launch each resident on his or her own unique path. We hope you will come and join us here in beautiful San Francisco!
