Martha Lechlinski

Welcome Martha Lechlinski!

Martha Lechlinski started her new role as Health Care Navigator for Geriatrics Inpatient Service this morning, working closely with Dr. Stephanie Rogers and Megan Rathfon, NP to provide the best inpatient care for hospitalized older adults with a focus on maintaining and improving physical and cognitive function and ensuring safe transitions from hospital to home.  Martha has been at UCSF Health since 2011, serving in a number of roles and providing excellent patient care to UCSF patients.  Most recently, Martha worked as a Senior Licensed Vocational Nurse in the Women’s Health Primary Care clinic at Mt. Zion.  Martha has years of experience providing direct patient care including vaccinations, wound care, ear lavage, venipuncture, and medication administration.  She also educated patients on self-care, including nutrition, weight management, medication administration, hormone injections, blood pressure.  As a Senior LVN, Martha often trained new LVNs and MAs to provide the same level of service and care to our patients.  Prior to the Women’s Health Clinic, Martha also worked at the Multiple Sclerosis Center and the Department of Neurology at UCSF between 2011 and 2014.  Prior to coming to UCSF, Martha also gained invaluable experience working with the Geriatrics population when she served as the LVN/Charge Nurse at Emeritus Senior Living in Rancho Mirage.  There, she led nursing staff to provide care to 22 residents including wound care, medication administration, blood draws, injections, and IV care.  Martha brings her 7+ years of practice and experience as a clinician, supervisor, and patient educator to continue caring for our patients as our Health Care Navigator!  We are extremely excited that she has decided to join our team!  She will be stationed at the Moffitt Long Hospital, Room L1507.  Her phone # is 415-502-5010 and her email address is [email protected] if you need to get a hold of her.  If you happen to see her around, please make her feel welcome!

UCSF Fresno Medical Education & Research Program

Established in 1975, UCSF Fresno Medical Education Program is a regional campus of University of California, San Francisco.

UCSF FresnoThe program was created with support from the California Legislature and the Veterans Administration to address the severe shortage of physicians practicing in California’s San Joaquin Valley and to increase access to continuing medical education in the region.

The program has a state-of-the-art facility for residents and students to provide care and learn their profession. Residents have the opportunity to evaluate and care for community patients in a referral hospital with University faculty. In addition, they continue to learn and work in the highly managed VA medical system. The UCSF Fresno Department of Medicine faculty provide training to 64 residents each year. In addition to the residency training program, we also have well-established fellowships in Cardiology, Pulmonary Critical Care Medicine, Gastroenterology, Infectious Diseases, Interventional Cardiology, and Sleep Medicine. We plan to develop a fellowship for Hematology/Oncology in the near future. Please visit the Fresno website for additional information.

Coupled with the expansion of training opportunities on our campus, we have also expanded opportunities in research with the recent opening of the UCSF Fresno Clinical Research Center. The 3300 sq ft, state-of-the-art facility provides infrastructure support for patient and population-focused research. The department has a robust clinical trials and clinical research program including several multi-centered NIH-funded trials. The faculty, fellows and residents publish 40-50 papers each year and all fellows and many residents present abstracts at national meetings each year.

Overview of Activities

At UCSF Fresno we offer both a preliminary year of training in internal medicine and a complete three-year program in internal medicine leading to board certification. Our mission is to produce well-rounded clinicians prepared for either the practice of general internal medicine or further training in subspecialties. Our program is designed to provide residents with progressive patient responsibility consistent with their level of training. We pride ourselves on our ability to provide residents with a great deal of hands-on experience in patient care while at the same time encouraging the use of evidence-based medicine principles and resources. We are very proud of our program and work continuously to assure that it is providing the highest quality medical care and medical training experience.

Our referral area stretches throughout the Central Valley to the Central Coast and includes at least 1.2 million people. Fresno County is one of the most ethnically diverse areas in the United States with over 100 languages spoken, and residents consequently gain valuable experience in serving this diverse population.
