In Memoriam: Announcing the Death of Emeritus Professor Dick Weisiger
Dear Colleagues:
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our esteemed colleague Richard (Dick) Weisiger, Emeritus Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology at UCSF Health. Dick passed away on April 24 from Multiple System Atrophy. He was 75 years old.
The DOM in 2020: A Year Unlike Any Other
2020 was a test of our courage, our empathy, our resilience, our patience, and our resolve. The horrors of the year – hundreds of thousands of deaths from Covid-19, everyone’s life disrupted by a deep recession and the limits on normal activities, the painful reckoning with the depths of systemic racism made brutally clear by the death of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, the debasement of our political system culminating in a mob attack on our Capitol – are distressing and raw. And it’s hard to know whether we’ve reached bottom, or if there’s worse to come.
Announcing the appointment of Dr. Urmimala Sarkar as our new Associate Chair for Faculty Experience
Dear Colleagues:
I am pleased to announce that Urmimala Sarkar, MD, MPH has accepted the position of Associate Chair for Faculty Experience for the Department of Medicine, effective November 1, 2020. Urmimala is Professor of Medicine at UCSF, Associate Director of the Center for Vulnerable Populations, and a member of the ZSFG Division of General Internal Medicine.
