Harsh Agrawal, MD

HS Asst. Clinical Professor

Cardiology, Cardiology UCSF Health

Given my desire to practice in academic and clinical interventional cardiology, I am immensely grateful to have had the opportunity to further my education in the American health care system. In the past years, I have witnessed improvements in patient outcomes related to advancements in medical technology and new devices, which are currently unavailable in my native country. With these goals in mind, I now seek to continue my training with increased patient volume and opportunities for research. Reminiscent of the dedicated and hard-working nature of the doctors in my family, I have an insatiable desire to excel in patient care. For me, there is no greater privilege in life than to learn from and help individuals in need of medical care. Concluding that my strengths and ambitions are highly compatible with a career in academic structural interventional cardiology, I have grown inseparable from this calling.

Clinical Interests
I work in the cardiac catheterization laboratory and take care of patients with valvular heart disease, complex coronary artery disease interventions and peripheral vascular interventions. I perform complex structural and coronary interventions including Transcatheter Valve replacement’s, Percutaneous coronary and peripheral arterial and venous interventions, percutaneous left and right ventricular assist device placements. I also take care of patients on the general inpatient cardiology service, the cardiac intensive care service and the procedural service. I have 2 outpatient clinics where the patients can see me for non-urgent issues and their cardiovascular care. Clinical interests include cardiovascular disease prevention and treatment, interventional cardiology, adult congenital heart disease, peripheral vascular disease and structural cardiology.Dr.Agrawal is American board certified in 8 specialties of Medicine/Cardiology which include, internal medicine, cardiovascular medicine, interventional cardiology, endovascular interventions, echocardiography, cardiac CT, nuclear cardiology and vascular ultrasound.

Research Interests
Dr. Agrawal is currently researching the utilization of MRIs in patients with chronic kidney disease during valve replacement in order to decrease their expose to contrast medium. This is one of the largest patient population where we have used this novel technique to limit all contrast exposure. He is examining the outcomes of percutaneous techniques for PFO closure after stroke. He is examining the achievability of same day discharges of patients who have undergone structural heart valve replacements, as well as analyzing the research for the most effective strategies of coronary artery bifurcation interventions. He is also involved with looking at out comes on patients who undergo patent ductus arteriosus interventions. Dr. Agrawal has published over 40 peer-reviewed research articles and is actively involved in clinical research at UCSF.
