Ashraf Abugroun, MBBS

Assistant Professor

Ashraf Abugroun is a clinician-investigator at the UCSF Division of Hospital Medicine. He received his bachelor's degree in medicine and surgery from the University of Khartoum, Sudan in 2009. After completing his internship at Sudan's Federal Ministry of Health, he moved to St. George's University in Grenada, west indies, as a clinical tutor and an instructor at the International Clinical Tutor Teaching Fellowship Program. In 2015, he transitioned to the USA, where he completed an internal medicine internship and residency at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Chicago, IL, in 2019. Afterward, he completed a geriatrics fellowship at Detroit Medical center / Wayne State University in 2020. Dr. Abugroun joined the division of hospital medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin from where he transitioned to UCSF, division of hospital medicine, in January 2022. Dr. Abugroun research interest is in cardiovascular epidemiology and clinical outcomes. The primary goal of his research is to support clinical decision-making by applying the risk-benefit analysis and cost-effectiveness for different cardiovascular treatment modalities in the geriatric population. Ultimately, he aims to develop a framework for tailoring clinical guideline recommendations for older adults according to their clinical and functional profile.
