Announcing the Appointment of Vipul Jain as Chief of Medicine at UCSF Fresno
Dear Colleagues:
It gives me great pleasure to announce that Vipul Jain, MD, MS, has accepted our offer to become the new chief of the UCSF Fresno Department of Medicine and vice chair of the UCSF Department of Medicine. This choice was guided by the recommendations of a diverse search committee and made in close consultation with the leadership of the Central California Faculty Medical Group (CCFMG). Vipul is an accomplished leader at UCSF Fresno, having served as chief of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care, executive vice chair of the UCSF Fresno Department of Medicine, and, for the past year, the department’s interim chief.
Vipul was born in India and came to the U.S. in 1997. He completed his Master’s in Preventive Medicine and Environmental Health at the University of Iowa, followed by a research fellowship in pulmonary medicine. He then completed his medicine residency at UCSF Fresno and a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care at UC San Diego.
After joining the faculty at UCSF Fresno in 2008, he quickly established himself as an academic leader, founding a chronic lung disease program and a robust clinical research registry. He has published over 30 peer-reviewed articles and received the UCSF Fresno Faculty Research Award in 2016. Beyond his leadership roles in the UCSF Fresno Department of Medicine, he served as the President of California Thoracic Society from 2021 to 2022 and is currently on the board and executive committee of CCFMG.
I have had the privilege of working with Vipul over the past year and have been impressed by his commitment to the academic and clinical missions of UCSF Fresno, his financial and strategic acumen, and his success in recruiting new faculty to Fresno.
Vipul will celebrate 25 years of marriage next week. He has two children and a passion for travel, both domestically and internationally.
