Hospital-Based Oncology for the Internist
Session moderated by Bob Wachter
Just as UCSF pioneered the Hospital Medicine specialty, we have also introduced an innovative care model in Hospital-Based Oncology (HBO). In this Medicine Grand Rounds, we will hear from Sam Brondfield on how the HBO team integrated oncology care into the hospital setting to provide more comprehensive, coordinated, multidisciplinary care. Attendees will learn practical best practices for caring for oncology patients in the inpatient setting, and explore how the lessons learned from HBO can be applied to improve clinical practice.
Speaker:
Sam Brondfield, MD, MAEd, is an associate professor of medicine in the Division of Hematology and Oncology at UCSF Health, where he serves as chief of the HBO group. His clinical expertise centers on the care of hospitalized patients with solid tumors. Brondfield attends on both the solid oncology consult service and the internal medicine teaching service at Moffitt-Long Hospital. He has received several accolades, including the Dean's Prize in Molecular Medicine and the Academy of Medical Educators (AME) Cooke Award for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. Additionally, he is an inductee into both the Gold Headed Cane Society and the UCSF AME.
