Department of Medicine Grand Rounds

Meet the new chief of the Division of Hematology & Oncology at UCSF Health, Krishna Komanduri, MD, at his first UCSF Department of Medicine Grand Rounds. The field of transplantation for blood cancers is undergoing profound changes, and Krishna will help explain the evolving science and the therapeutic opportunities and challenges. In the process, he’ll help demystify an alphabet soup of terms in the field, including SCTs, CAR-Ts, and more.

Krishna Komanduri, MD, an international leader in the fields of hematology-oncology, transplantation, and cellular immunotherapy, is chief of the Division of Hematology-Oncology at UCSF Health. He is also physician-in-chief of the Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center (HDFCCC) as well as the clinical director of the UCSF Living Therapeutics Initiative in addition to his new role as the Chief of UCSF Health’s Hematology & Oncology Division.
Krishna’s research, which is both lab-based and translational, focuses on improving the outcomes of patients undergoing transplantation for hematologic malignancies, as well as the use of immune-based therapies for all cancers. He has authored or co-authored six books and 125 articles in the peer-reviewed literature. He has been a principal or key investigator for more than a dozen grants and has served as a member of several NIH study sections. He is an elected member of the American Society of Clinical Investigation (ASCI).
