Elisabeth Askin received the UCSF Academic Senate Clinical Excellence Award

Elisabeth AskinThe UCSF Academic Senate proudly honors Elisabeth Askin as a recipient of this year’s Clinical Excellence Award, recognizing an extraordinary group of faculty whose work defines the very best of UCSF.​

Elisabeth Askin is a specialist in internal medicine who is particularly interested in managing chronic disease and the medications prescribed for them. Her favorite question to ask new patients is what brings them joy, which she believes should never get lost among questions about symptoms, habits and health history. 

Askin earned her medical degree at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and completed a residency in internal medicine at UCSF. While in school, she co-wrote a reference book for medical professionals, students and patients called The Health Care Handbook: A Clear and Concise Guide to the United States Health Care System.
