Dr. Jennie Gubner Published Article in the Yearbook for Traditional Music
Dr. Jennie Gubner published the article “The Music and Memory Project: Understanding Music and Dementia through Applied Ethnomusicology and Experiential Filmmaking” in the Yearbook for Traditional Music. In this article, Dr. Gubner shows how short student-made films informed by ethnographic research methods can foster new kinds of knowledge about music, dementia and intergenerational engagement. The article positions filmmaking as a methodology of experiential learning that empowers students as active agents of change in the de-stigmatization of neurodiversity and the promotion of creative aging in the lives of older adults.
