Anna Chodos named the inaugural site chief of geriatrics at ZSFG

We are pleased to announce that Anna Chodos, MD, MPH has been selected as the inaugural site chief of the geriatrics at ZSFG. The site chief of geriatrics will provide leadership, vision, and management for older adults at ZSFG with regard to patient care, education and research.
Chodos is a geriatrician and professor in the both the UCSF Division of Geriatrics and Division of General Internal Medicine at ZSFG who is deeply committed to advancing equitable, high-quality care for older adults. She received her MD from Harvard Medical School, her MPH from Harvard School of Public Health and completed an internal medicine residency at UCSF in the ZSFG Primary Care Track, a fellowship in Geriatric Medicine at UCSF, and an SFVAHCS Quality Scholars fellowship.
Chodos is a successful clinician educator and clinical program builder who has led the development of outpatient geriatrics programs at ZSFG and collaborated on programs that improve detection and management of cognitive impairment as well as support caregivers and strengthen partnerships across geriatric medicine, primary care, and behavioral health. She holds multiple leadership roles, including medical director of the ZSFG Outpatient Geriatrics Consult Clinic, medical director of the ZSFG Geriatric Neurology Cognitive Clinic and medical director of the ZSFG GUIDE program for dementia care navigation. She is also director of Age-Friendly Health Systems for SF Health Network.
In addition, Chodos has developed novel geriatrics education and implementation strategies for SF Health Network primary care clinics and mentored numerous trainees and junior faculty devoted to aging and equity. She is the executive director of Dementia Care Aware, initially a two-year $23 million statewide initiative that started in March 2022 to improve early detection of dementia in primary care, which continues to produce multiple educational products every month. These products include GERI Videos, which is a series of dementia education videos for clinicians. Chodos also was the creator and director of 80 Over 80 San Francisco, a novel project celebrating the stories of older people in San Francisco. Chodos currently holds the Carrie & Ronald Ludwig Endowment for Innovation in Aging, which supports developing innovative programs in Geriatrics at UCSF, ZSFG and the wider community.
Chodos will work in collaboration with the UCSF chief of geriatrics, division chiefs of General Internal Medicine and Hospital Medicine at ZSFG, other division chiefs at ZSFG and the ZSFG chief of medicine to develop strategies and proposals to serve our older adult patients and support the growth, connection and well-being of geriatricians and staff who work in geriatrics programs at ZSFG.
