Anil Agarwal to serve as the interim chief of the SFVAHCS
We are grateful that Anil Agarwal, MD, an accomplished physician-leader and current deputy chief of staff at the SFVAHCS, will serve as acting vice chair of medicine and chief of the medicine service effective July 1. Anil is an internationally recognized expert in hypertension, dialysis, anemia, vascular access, and mineral bone disorders. He has led over 50 clinical trials and published extensively, including the first textbook of Interventional Nephrology, and has over 500 publications and presentations. He is a past president of the American Society of Diagnostic and Interventional Nephrology and has held leadership roles with the International Society of Nephrology.
A frequent speaker worldwide, he has also chaired multiple national committees and served on editorial boards. Before joining SFVAHCS as deputy chief of staff, he served as chief of medicine at the VA Central California Health Care System, where he advanced care quality and innovation.
We appreciate Anil’s willingness to serve the Department of Medicine during this important transition. He brings a breadth of experience, a track record of clinical innovation, and national leadership in nephrology that will serve the SFVAHCS well.
