Residency training pathways

Residency DiagramInternal Medicine residency training at UCSF happens through three distinct training programs on three campuses. In San Francisco, the UCSF Internal Medicine Residency is our largest program and includes a categorical track, two primary care tracks, and a physician-scientist training pathway. Trainees spend nearly equal time at UCSF Health, Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, and the San Francisco Veterans Administration Hospital. Another distinct residency program in San Francisco is the UCSF-St. Mary’s Internal Medicine ResidencyThis is a community-based training program based at the UCSF-St. Mary’s Hospital. Lastly, in Fresno, CA, there is the UCSF-Fresno Internal Medicine Residency. This is also a community-based program focused on care for patients in the San Joaquin Valley.
