Katherine Brooks, MD

Assistant Professor

Katie arrived to UCSF after residency training in Boston at Brigham and Women's Hospital. Clinically, she works as a hospitalist at ZSFG and is honored to serve in San Francisco's safety net hospital. She holds several medical education leadership roles including as a Clinical Skills Mentor in the JMP program, Co-Director of the Model SFGH Program and Co-Director of the Diagnostic Reasoning Course in the SOM. She also serves as a Clinical Lead in SF DPH's Information and Guidance Department.

Her interests are in understanding and addressing racial health disparities, as well as the impact of clinician bias on clinical decision making. She has developed curriculum to teach medical students how to think about intersections between race, racism and medicine. She is also interested in how climate change impacts individual and public health. Katie's research has focused on health disparities in a variety of areas- including HIV in resource limited settings internationally and nationally, premature mortality among African Americans, access to cardiology subspecialty care for heart failure admissions and care for the incarcerated patient.
