Natalya Maisel named director of research administration and revenue management

Natalya Maisel has been appointed director of research administration and revenue management for the Department of Medicine, effective December 1, 2025. She succeeds Jon Rueter, who is now serving as associate dean for financial affairs in the School of Medicine Dean’s Office.
In this role, Natalya will oversee all aspects of research administration for the department. Her portfolio will include compliance, effort reporting, post-award administration, and analytics, as well as representing the department in all research matters, including collaboration with central offices on pre-award administration and contracting. She will also further develop the structure, standards, and best practices for our research finance analysts (RFAs) across divisions, with an emphasis on consistent processes, training, and service quality. In addition, she will work closely with David Erle and Diane Havlir, our associate chairs for research, to address critical issues in research. The revenue management component of her portfolio will be phased in over time, with her initial focus on strengthening research administration.
Natalya currently serves as division manager for the Division of Clinical Informatics and Digital Transformation (DoC-IT) and as director of strategic initiatives and operations in the DOM. She was instrumental in establishing and launching DoC-IT from its inception. She brings extensive research administration experience from VA Palo Alto and Stanford University, where she managed complex research portfolios and streamlined administrative processes. Natalya earned her PhD from UCLA, with strong training in statistics and research methodology. Outside of work, she enjoys watching sports, playing the ukulele, and trying new recipes with her family.
