Dementia Care Aware's Summer Symposium
Last Wednesday, August 28th, Dementia Care Aware hosted an in-person education event in Imperial County, bringing training, resources, and discussions to support dementia care in rural and suburban counties.
Attendees enjoyed a full day of presentations on the cognitive health assessment, local dementia care resources for patients and their care partners, and legal capacity from our partners at University of California San Diego, Alzheimer's Association, Southern Caregiver Resource Center, and Elder Law and Advocacy.

Krista Harrison, PhD; Theresa Allison, MD, PhD; Sarah Garrett, PhD; Nicole Thompson (former Geriatrics CRC); Rebecca Sudore, MD; and Christine Ritchie, MD published “Hospice Staff Perspectives on Caring for People with Dementia: A Multisite, Multistakeholder Study” in the Journal of Palliative Medicine. Interviews conducted with interdisciplinary hospice staff at four different organizations revealed specific challenges of providing hospice care for people with dementia and a perception that hospice regulatory and policy changes disproportionately impact people with dementia.
