Welcome Rebecca Newmark!

Please join us in welcoming Rebecca Newmark (Student Intern) to our Division!

Rebecca is a current MD candidate at UCSF and a PhD candidate at UCSF & UC Berkeley in the Medical Anthropology program. Rebecca is joining our team as a Student Intern working with Dr. Ashwin Kotwal on his research studies aimed at improving the quality of care for older adults. Rebecca attended Princeton for her undergrad and completed a Post-Baccalaureate program from Northwestern University in 2016. As a third-year MD/PhD student currently learning about qualitative methods prior to beginning her dissertation, Rebecca will be leading all phases of a qualitative study led by Dr. Kotwal to understand technology adaptations among older adults during the COVID-19 pandemic. This project will allow her to gain hands-on experience in a qualitative research study with feedback from a large group of research collaborators prior to beginning her own dissertation work. The project will have real-world implications and be relevant to many different academic audiences. Prior to UCSF, Rebecca worked as a Research Study Coordinator in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine supporting several studies involving pharmacokinetics. Rebecca also has multiple peer-reviewed publications in various publications platforms, have had several abstracts accepted for poster presentations and most recently earned the First Place Poster (Category: Innovations) at the Society of General Internal Medicine California-Hawaii Regional Meeting. Last but not least, Rebecca is also a current recipient of the UCSF Matilda Edlund Scholarship.
