Department of Medicine Grand Rounds
Session moderated by Bob Wachter
New scientific advances have rapidly transformed the approach to breast cancer. In our next Grand Rounds, Hope Rugo, MD, professor of Clinical Medicine and director of Breast Oncology and Clinical Trials Education, will examine how differences in breast tumor biology can inform treatment decisions and methods of drug delivery. These advances are revolutionizing our approach to this, the most common cancer in the world.
Speaker:
Hope Rugo, MD, is a hematologist-oncologist who specializes in breast cancer treatment. She joined the UCSF Carol Franc Buck Breast Care Center after a decade at UCSF Medical Center, where she worked in bone marrow transplantation for a variety of diseases, including breast cancer. Hope is professor of Clinical Medicine in the Division of Hematology and Oncology at the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, where she is also the director of Breast Oncology and Clinical Trials Education and the medical director of Cancer Infusion Services. She is the principal investigator for several clinical trials of potential new therapies. She is also an investigator with the Bay Area's SPORE (Specialized Programs of Research Excellence) on breast cancer. The National Cancer Institute established SPORE to foster collaborative, interdisciplinary cancer research.
