Krista Harrison and Colleagues Publish Study in Health Affairs
Krista Harrison, PhD, along with UCSF colleagues Drs. Irena Cenzer, PhD and Lauren Hunt, PhD, RN, FNP, and Mount Sinai, colleagues Drs. Claire Ankuda and Melissa Aldridge, published a study entitled "Hospice Improves Care Quality For Older Adults With Dementia In Their Last Month Of Life" in Health Affairs. Using data from the National Health and Aging Trends Study linked to claims data, we found proxies of people living with dementia enrolled in hospice compared with proxies of those not enrolled more often reported care to be excellent, having anxiety or sadness managed, and less often reported changes in care settings in the last three days of life. There were no differences in the impact of hospice on proxy ratings of care for people with and without dementia.
