DOM DEIB Programs Showcase
Representatives from three different DEIB initiatives from across the Department of Medicine will offer brief descriptions of their programs, as well as summaries of the experiences and impacts. Following the presentations there will be a panel discussion co-facilitated by a staff and faculty leader from the DOM Staff DEIB Committee. The intention of this showcase is to provide our division leaders with inspiration and models for successful programs that they may wish to implement or adapt within their own units.
This event will be Zoom-only. Watch live using the link below:

Dr. Lauren Hunt and colleagues published an article in JAGS
Lauren Hunt, PhD, RN, FNP, Sean Morrison, MD, Siqi Gan, Edie Espejo, Katherine Ornstein, PhD, John Boscardin, PhD, and Alex Smith, MD, MPH, MS, published an article in JAGS entitled, “Incidence of potentially disruptive medical and social events in older adults with and without dementia.” Using data from the Health and Retirement study, we found that community-dwelling older adults with dementia had higher age-adjusted incidence rates of pneumonia and hip fractures compared to those without dementia, while differences in widowhood rates were not statistically significant. This knowledge can help aid anticipatory guidance and care planning for the growing population of community-dwelling older adults with dementia.
