Geri Spotlight: Robbie Zimbroff and Sandra Moody
The Geriatrics Spotlight initiative fosters community building within the Division, especially during this age of hybrid/remote work where it can be challenging to find ways to interact with colleagues outside of your immediate teams. This is a way for Division members to learn more about all the wonderful work we’re doing!
This week, we get to know our division members, Robbie Zimbroff and Sandra Moody.
Role: Assistant Professor
Joined Division: 2023
Work site: Mission Bay
Email: [email protected]
Interviewed by Sandra Moody over Zoom.
About Robbie’s Role/Ongoing Projects
Robbie is excited about the Caring Wisely project because it allows him to enroll older adults who are home-bound directly into Care at Home from the acute care setting. He is excited about GUIDE, which is a CMS innervation pilot for Dementia Care at Home. He is thrilled that UCSF was selected as one of the pilot sites. Robbie believes these projects are at the core of what we do in the Division of Geriatrics and in geriatrics as a whole -- what greater way to serve those who are in need of our care in their homes. Robbie believes our Division does it well.
His favorite aspect of her position is taking care of older adults in their homes where the power dynamic is reversed. He believes that he is able to focus on the patient's needs where they're at while providing the best care possible.
What is a professional goal you would like to accomplish by the end of this year?
Robbie's professional goal for this year is to expand his knowledge and skill in program building and implementation.

About Sandra’s Role/Ongoing Projects
Sandra has helped rebuild the Palliative Care service at ZSFG. She became Medical Director of the Palliative Care service in July 2022 and successfully launched an inpatient consultation service by October 2022, first in the ICU and subsequently expanding to other services. By November 2022, she had helped start ambulatory Palliative Care at ZSFG. Sandra's work leading the Palliative Care service at ZSFG ensures older adults with advanced illness can receive goal-concordant care. Sandra previously founded the Palliative Care service at the San Francisco VA.
Sandra's favorite part of her current role is facilitation. In leading the Palliative Care service, she loves facilitating the team to operate at its highest potential. When she attends at ZSFG, she facilitates care and complex decision-making for patients and their families.
What is a professional goal you would like to accomplish by the end of this year?
Sandra's professional goal that she is hoping to accomplish is to leave the Palliative Care service in a good position to be built upon by others who will take over after her.
