The Path From NIH Funding of Basic Science to New Therapeutics

The Path From NIH Funding of Basic Science to New Therapeutics
Richard Lifton, MD, PhD

Session moderated by Bob Wachter

How does bench science get to the bedside? Now, more than ever, understanding how NIH-funded basic science research leads to groundbreaking medical treatments is crucial.

Richard Lifton, an internationally renowned genetics researcher and president of Rockefeller University, will discuss the translation of fundamental discoveries into therapeutic innovations, bridging the gap between laboratory research and clinical applications. Attendees will gain insights into the funding process, the challenges of therapeutic development, and the impact of scientific advancements on public health.

Dr. Lifton will also speak at a celebration of the life and career of the late DOM chair Dr. Floyd Rector, from 2pm - 5pm on Tuesday, April 1, also in HSW-300. Further information on the Rector event can be found here.
