Geri Spotlight: Courtney Gordon and Gaby Vanegas
The Geriatrics Spotlight initiative fosters community building within the Division, especially during this age of hybrid/remote work where it can be challenging to find ways to interact with colleagues outside of your immediate teams. This is a way for Division members to learn more about all the wonderful work we’re doing!
This week, we get to know our division members, Courtney Gordon and Gaby Vanegas.
Role: Geriatric and Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner with Care at Home
Joined Division: 2011

Interviewed by Gaby Vanegas over Zoom.
About Courtney’s Role/Ongoing Projects
Courtney dedicates most of her time to providing patient care, but she's also engaged in a collaborative effort with a nurse and a social worker. Together, they're developing an objective method to assess patient risk levels, aiming to accurately represent the complexity of their cases. This project is instrumental in enhancing clinical care by enabling the team to prioritize patients with high-risk, high-need profiles, ultimately reducing healthcare utilization among this demographic. What she finds most exciting is working towards designing a screening tool to show the complexity of the work her team is performing.
Courtney really enjoys working with her team. She attributes her enduring commitment to the exceptional individuals she's worked with.
What is a professional goal you would like to accomplish by the end of this year?
Courtney feels her team has really grown through the years and is ready to take on a bigger role. She would like the opportunity to help orient and lead the NP group.
