Non-Insulin Medications for Diabetes: Choosing Wisely in the Face of the Many New Options
Non-Insulin Medications for Diabetes: Choosing Wisely in the Face of the Many New Options
Sarah Kim, MD
Session Moderated by Bob Wachter
Treatment options for diabetes medications are constantly evolving, and it's easy to get lost in the alphabet soup of non-insulin diabetes medications. Join Sarah Kim for a practical review of non-insulin medications for diabetes, with a focus on GLP-1 receptor agonists and SGLT-2 inhibitors. This Grand Rounds will explore how to identify the right (and wrong) oral regimens for patients with diabetes based on specific clinical scenarios. Attendees will leave with greater confidence in personalizing a diabetes treatment plan beyond insulin, an essential skill in both inpatient and outpatient care.
Speaker:
Sarah Kim, MD, is a professor of medicine in the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at ZSFG and the director of the UCSF Diabetes Teaching Center. Her clinical work focuses on adult diabetes and adult and pediatric obesity. She also provides care for the San Francisco's safety net population, which includes many of the city's 73,000 uninsured residents.
