Preeclampsia as a Window into Lifelong Cardiovascular Risk
Department of Medicine Grand Rounds
-
The cardiovascular effects of preeclampsia can extend long beyond pregnancy. This Grand Rounds will examine the pathophysiology of preeclampsia and the mechanisms linking it to long-term cardiovascular risk. The session will explore opportunities to strengthen postpartum and primary care to improve maternal cardiometabolic health, including the multidisciplinary approach exemplified by the UCSF Postpartum Cardiometabolic Wellness Clinic.
Speakers: Phoebe Ashley, MD, MS, is a professor of medicine in the Division of Cardiology at UCSF Health. She specializes in women’s cardiovascular health, medical education, and health literacy and partnered with UCSF Maternal-Fetal Medicine faculty to develop the Postpartum Cardiometabolic Wellness Clinic for patients who have experienced adverse pregnancy outcomes.
Megan McLaughlin, MD, MPH, is an assistant professor of medicine in the Division of Cardiology at UCSF Health and co-founder of the Postpartum Cardiometabolic Wellness Clinic. She co-authored the American College of Cardiology Postpartum Hypertension Clinic Development Toolkit and researches cardiovascular disease prevention following pregnancy complications.
Martha Tesfalul, MD, is an assistant professor in the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Reproductive Genetics at UCSF Health and the maternal-fetal medicine lead for the UCSF Postpartum Cardiometabolic Wellness Clinic.
