In Conversation with White House COVID-19 Response Coordinator Ashish Jha
-

Session moderated by Bob Wachter

For the past few months, Ashish Jha, former medicine resident and chief resident at UCSF and dean of the School of Public Health at Brown University, has served as the coordinator of the White House COVID-19 response. Ashish returns to Medicine Grand Rounds to share insights from his new role. We’ll review the state of the pandemic, mandates, variants, Paxlovid, vaccines and boosters, funding challenges, and other topical issues. At the completion of Ashish’s remarks at 12:45, a panel of UCSF experts (Peter Chin-Hong, Monica Gandhi, and George Rutherford) will offer their reactions.

Speakers:
A practicing physician, Ashish K. Jha, MD, MPH, was appointed as coordinator of the COVID-19 response by President Biden. Prior to assuming this role, he served as dean of the School of Public Health at Brown University. He is recognized globally as an expert on pandemic preparedness and response as well as on domestic and global health policy. Ashish has led groundbreaking research around Ebola and has been a trusted voice on the COVID-19 response, leading national and international analysis of key issues and advising state and federal policy makers.

While our Grand Rounds are now usually hybrid, this conference will be Zoom only. We’ll return to hybrid (HSW-300 in person or Zoom options) on June 9.
