The Hypertension Control Paradox: Why America Is Stuck (And What We Can Do About It)
Department of Medicine Grand Rounds
-
Despite effective therapies and proven care models, only half of Americans with high blood pressure have it under control. This Grand Rounds will examine the information, care delivery, and incentive gaps contributing to this persistent challenge and explore new opportunities to improve hypertension control. The session will highlight systematic approaches including the UC Way on Hypertension and the evolving role of digital health and AI in hypertension and cardio-kidney-metabolic care.
Speakers: Sandeep (Sunny) Kishore, MD, PhD, MSc, is an associate professor of medicine in the Division of Hospital Medicine at UCSF Health. He serves as clinical lead for Jupyter Health, leading efforts to develop data-driven approaches to hypertension, obesity, and diabetes care. Kishore also co-led the development of a scalable treatment algorithm to improve blood pressure control across the University of California health system, served as a technical advisor to Resolve to Save Lives on cardiovascular disease prevention, and helped modernize the WHO Essential Medicines List to support earlier, more equitable access to chronic disease medications.
