Early in our efforts, the Department hosted a strategic planning retreat with key clinical, educational, and operational leaders from our primary campuses. The goals of the retreat were to identify programmatic priorities that would foster QI/PS work, outline a path to bring these programs to fruition, and build a sense of community for those engaged in QI/PS activities. During the retreat, participants also helped formalize a roadmap for desired and necessary activities that would promote and foster scholarship in QI/PS.
The five thematic focus areas that resulted from the retreat, and guided subsequent planning efforts included:
- Define and articulate a QI/PS strategy
- Develop individual and Departmental capacity to lead QI/PS programs
- Streamline and support access to data
- Share information and improve collaborations across the department
- Recognize and elevate success in QI/PS
Many programs and activities described within our Quality & Safety website were created based on recommendations and subsequent input from participants at this retreat. We're grateful for the passion, inspiration, and commitment of our colleagues to improving the care we provide across the DOM.
An article describing our academic roadmap for promoting scholarship in quality and safety was published in Academic Medicine.
