PHARMACOKINETICS, PHARMACODYNAMICS & DRUG METABOLISM

FRANCESCA T. AWEEKA, Pharm.D., Associate Clinical Professor of Pharmacy

Dr. Aweeka's research interests are in the areas of pharmaco-kinetics and pharmacodynamics: primarily for anti-viral, renal and immunosuppressive drugs. She has carried out various projects evaluating the disposition and pharmacodynamics of anti-CMV drugs including foscarnet, ganciclovir and cidofovir. She is currently directing pharmacology studies for the anti-HIV protease inhibitors including drug interaction and pharmacodynamic evaluations. She is particularly interested in the disposition of antiretrovirals into the centeral nervous system. She is also actively involved in the NIH-sponsored AIDS Clinical Trials Group and is currently Vice-Chair of the Pharmacology Committee. She has previously studied the pharmacokinetics of immunosuppressive drugs such as cyclosporine, mycophenolate and tacrolimus.
