Timeline and Approval Flowcharts for Research Proposals

Investigators should contact the assigned Research Services Analyst (RSA) as early as possible when considering the submission of a research proposal. Your RSA will assist you in determining what forms need to be completed, and what timeframe is realistic in order to meet the application deadline. The RSA will provide guidance for obtaining the proper approvals required by the University.

Investigators should plan to complete the research proposal at least two weeks before the application deadline.

Research applications must be received by the campus Contracts and Grants office at 9:00am, five working days before the grant is due to the funding agency. This policy in enforced and late submissions will not be honored.

Prior to submitting the completed research proposal to the campus C&G office, all research applications must be reviewed by the Department of Medicine Research Administration Office. If all administrative matters are in order, the application will be forwarded to the Chair of the Department for approval signature. Chair approval is required for ALL RESEARCH to be conducted through the Department or in Departmental space. The Chair requires a letter of support from the Chief of the investigator's division or research unit. The Office of the Chair requires 2 working days for review and approval of all research proposals.

If you have any questions regarding timeline or submission process, please contact the RSA for your division.
