The Department of Medicine is committed to providing our RSAs with the tools necessary for their success. We have outlined a core training program in campus-level policy and procedure that covers:
- Contracts and Grants
- Cost Transfers
- General Ledger and Fund Accounting
- Post-Award Management of Extramural Funds
In addition, RSAs receive periodic department-level training and orientation. Mentors provide guidance and information to new RSAs, and our leaders are contacts for primary issues involved in research administration.
The Department of Medicine requires that our RSAs complete classes developed by the Office of Sponsored Research (OSR) to keep them knowledgeable and current in their work. Introduction to Sponsored Research provides basic research fundamentals and access to important resources. It is available online at WebCT. The second class will be available on-line soon.
We also encourage our RSAs to identify additional training needs, which might include training in technical skills, such as computer software, or in job-specific areas, such as clinical trials. We actively seek feedback from our RSAs to improve the processes of research administration and the abilities of our administrators to meet their objectives.
