To increase the integration and coordination of departmental efforts in support of research, a Department of Medicine Research Council was created in the Fall of 2011.

The Research Council is chaired by William Seaman and Suzanne Sutton. The Council members are Kirsten Bibbins-Domingo, Carl Grunfeld, John Fahy, Marguerita Lightfoot, Jackie Maher, Mike McCune, Robert Nussbaum, Michael Shlipak, Dean Sheppard, Ida Sim, Louise Walter and Art Weiss.

The Council will propose policy on a broad range of matters relevant to research. Initial topics will include the facilitation of large, cross-disciplinary grants, the enhancement of human studies, the fostering of recruitments, the allocation of space, and support for research trainees.
