On average, approximately 1-3 new hospitalists join the UCSF Division of Hospital Medicine each year. To be competitive for an academic position based at UCSF Medical Center (“Parnassus”), most candidates will have completed a chief residency and/or a fellowship, and have evidence of skill in teaching and leadership potential in research, quality improvement, or another academic area. Interested candidates should send a letter of interest, their CV, and 3 references to Robert Wachter c/o Mary Whitney at maryw@medicine.ucsf.edu or 415-476-7991.
Our major expansion in recent years has been on the non-resident service based at Mt. Zion Hospital. These faculty are fully integrated into the UCSF Division of Hospital Medicine, and have the opportunity to serve as teaching ward attendings (at UCSF Medical Center) for up to 3 months each year. Because of their non-teaching role, their pay level is approximately 10-15% higher than the Parnassus-based academic hospitalists. Successful candidates will be graduates of strong internal medicine residencies with tremendous clinical skills who have some academic potential and interest in teaching on the wards. Interested candidates should send a letter of interest, their CV, and three references to Dr. Niraj Sehgal, Director of the Mt. Zion non-resident service, at nirajs@medicine.ucsf.edu.
