2004  Journal Club Presenter, UCSF Division of General Internal Medicine.     
Reviewed and prepared interactive discussion on the article, “Weight Loss with Self-help Compared with a Structured Commercial Program, a Randomized Trial,” JAMA, 2003.
2004-2005 Ambulatory Seminar Lecturer, UCSF Division of General Internal Medicine.  Presented and discussed the evidence for diagnosis and treatment of ankylosing  spondylitis, anterior uveitis, sarcoidosis, thyroid nodules, and aortic stenosis.
2005 Clinical Skills Instructor, UCSF Schools of Nursing and Dentistry. Taught universal precautions and phlebotomy skills to first year nurse practitioner and dental students.
2005 Resident Preceptor, Family and Community Medicine Clerkship, UCSF Division of General Internal Medicine.  Supervise and teach medical students while they see patients in the UCSF General Internal Medicine Practice.
2005 Homeless Clinic Preceptor, UCSF School of Medicine 5th Street Clinic. Oversee medical students monthly at clinic within homeless shelter. Teach history, physical exam skills and relevant clinical topics.

 

Leadership Experience
2000-2001 Community Health Outreach Program Coordinator, Northwestern University Medicine School.  Volunteered weekly at free medical clinic; created student volunteer schedule; organized annual health fair.
2000-2001 American Medical Women’s Association Northwestern Chapter President, Northwestern University Medicine School. Organized panel discussions, community outreach projects, and social events. Currently serve as resident representative to AMWA East bay/San Francisco chapter.
2004-2005 Group Visit Organizer, UCSF Mt. Zion General Medicine Practice. Worked with nurse practitioners and pharmacy students to organize office-based group visits for patients with COPD and diabetes, emphasizing self-management skills for patients living with chronic illness.
2005 Ambulatory Chief Resident, UCSF Primary Care/General Internal Medicine Residency Program. For a two-month block, coordinated ambulatory conferences, led weekly practice report, developed and organized resident subspecialty conference curriculum, helped coordinate annual resident retreat. 
2004-2006 UCSF Guide to Outpatient Medicine Editor, UCSF Department of Medicine. Currently updating and editing the second edition of the Handbook used by many residents in the outpatient clinics. Recruited residents to help write new chapters, am currently working with local experts to ensure reliability and relevance of new material.

 

Research Experience and Projects
1997 Research Assistant, University of Michigan Psychiatry-Alcohol Research Center.  Collected data by interviewing patients in a primary care setting
for a longitudinal study on the health risks of alcohol in the elderly.
1998 Summer Fellow, National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. Studied conditioned plasma corticosterone responses to addictive drugs. Collected and analyzed data, presented abstract at poster presentation ceremony.
1998 Research Assistant, University of Michigan Department of General Internal Medicine.  Interviewed patients for a study on the importance of education on the satisfaction of breast cancer survivors.
2004-2006 Resident Scholarship Project. UCSF Division of General Internal
Medicine.  Updating and editing the current edition of the UCSF Guide to Outpatient Medicine. Currently applying for educational grants, plan to distribute handbook to all internal medicine and family practice residents. Expected publication, June 2006.  

 

Volunteer and Clinical Experience
2000 Medical Students for Choice Summer Externship Program, Boston, Massachusetts. Counseled women on reproductive health issues.
2005 Light The Night Walkathon Team Captain, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Organized group of residents to raise money and awareness for cancer research and outreach projects for patients and survivors. Raised $900 for the cause.
