       Rachelle Bernacki , MD

Rachelle Bernacki, MD, MS is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of California San Francisco and jointly appointed in Geriatrics at the San Francisco Veterans Administration hospital. She attends on the medicine and palliative care consult service, and is a member of the UCSF Palliative Care Leadership Center. She is a graduate of The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and completed her residency and chief residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Washington from 1998-2002.  Subsequently, she was a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) Clinical Scholar at the University of Chicago, focusing her research on a project examining advance directives in hospitalized patients. She also completed a fellowship in medical ethics at the MacClean Center for Medical Ethics as well as a geriatrics fellowship at the University of Chicago Hospitals.  She served as the fellow-in-training chair for the American Geriatrics Society from 2005-06 and completed the Harvard Program in Palliative Care Education and Practice.  Her main clinical and research interest is in improving care for hospitalized dying patients and is board certified in Palliative Care as well as Geriatrics.
