       Madhavi Dandu, MD, MPH

Dr. Dandu is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine. She received her undergraduate degree in Comparative Literature and medical degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She completed her residency training in the Categorical Medicine Program at UCSF in 2003. Afterwards, Dr. Dandu attended the University of California, Berkeley and received a Masters in Public Health with a focus on international health and health and human rights.

Prior to returning to UCSF, Dr. Dandu spent two years back at the University of Michigan with the Department of Medicine in the hospitalist group providing inpatient clinical care to patients and teaching residents and medical students. While there she developed a medical student rotation on the non-housestaff hospitalist service. She also continued her research with a focus on prevention of DVT in medical inpatients.

At UCSF, Dr. Dandu spends much of her time on the inpatient clinical and consult services supervising and teaching medical students and residents. She currently is director of the Global Health Scholars Program for the Internal Medicine Residency, a program designed to provide training and exposure to global health. In this capacity she coordinates the international clinical experiences of residents, assists with their scholarly projects, and mentors individuals interested in international health.  At the medical school she currently co-teaches the Social Medicine and Activism elective on Health and Human Rights.

Madhavi also spends one day a week at UC Berkeley. As academic coordinator for the School of Public Health one-year Interdisciplinary MPH program she helps coordinate the curriculum, provides mentoring, and co-teaches the interdisciplinary seminar.  In addition, she continues to pursue her research interests in quality improvement and in public health.
