Karen Hauer, MD is Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). She completed her undergraduate work at Stanford University and then attended medical school and served as an in internal medicine resident and chief resident at UCSF. Currently, Karen is Director of Internal Medicine Clerkships at UCSF, supervising all 3rd and 4th year internal medicine rotations at the institution's 3 main teaching hospitals and serving as site director at Moffitt-Long Hospitals. She also directs the UCSF Clinical Performance Exam and co-directs the UCSF Clinical Skills Center. Clinically, she is an active member of the UCSF hospitalist group and maintains an outpatient primary care practice. Her research interests include mentoring, clinical skills education, and the impact of hospitalists on medical education. Karen is an inaugural member of the UCSF Academy of Medical Educators and holds the Gold Headed Cane Endowed Chair in Medical Education.
