Educational Conferences

The Divisions of Hematology and Oncology offer varied educational lectures and presentations for our faculty and fellows.

Journal Club / Clinical Case Conference / Morbidity and Mortality

OBJECTIVES:

The objectives of our live CME-accredited courses are:

  • To present focused topics in the clinical practice of Hematology and Oncology in case presentation format with a review of pertinent literature.
  • To highlight new developments in the treatment of Hematology and Oncology disorders based on a critical appraisal of recent clinical studies and journal articles.
  • Present scientific data regarding the biologic basis of clinical problems in Hematology and Oncology, focusing on those whom have potential diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic applicability.

TITLES:

These conferences are presented by both faculty and fellows from all of our primary sites and affiliated sites, as well as special invited speakers. Titles of our past Journal Clubs, Clinical Case Conferences, and Morbidity and Mortality Conferences have included:

Didactic Lectures

The UCSF Hematology/Oncology Fellowship is exceptional in its comprehensive didactic introduction to the science and medicine behind Hematology and Oncology. Our first-year fellows participate in 102 didactic lectures that cover the following themes:

  • Hem/Onc Essentials (with lectures such as Chemotherapy, Morphology, Lymphomas, Blood Banking, Flow Cytometry, Breast Cancer, etc.)
  • Cancer Medicine (with lectures such as End of Life Care, Ethical Issues in Oncology, Avoiding Burnout in your Career in Oncology, etc.)
  • Clinical Research Methods (with lectures such as Interpretation of Clinical Research Literature, Clinical Research Protocol: Study Design, etc.)
  • Cancer Biology (with lectures such as Cancer Genetics: Genetic Epidemiology, Cancer Bioinformatics, etc.)
