There are a variety of ways to support UCSF: pledges; outright gifts; planned giving options; including trusts and bequests; and endowed giving opportunities. Gifts and pledges may support current programs, establish or continue to support a named endowment or provide capital improvements. Those who give a total of $1,000 or more to a specific school or program in one fiscal year become Associates of UCSF.

For more information, please contact Shahla Haider, Division Administrator, 415-514-0719.

Pledges

You may make a commitment to UCSF payable over a period of three to five years. A pledge demonstrates your intention to make a gift to the University and may allow you to give more generously over a period of time than would be possible through a single contribution.

Outright gifts

Anyone can make an outright gift to UCSF. Outright gifts include cash, securities, real estate or personal property. These gifts are tax deductible and provide immediate support to UCSF and its programs.

Through your will/Bequests

Bequests create a lasting legacy to UCSF. You can make a bequest through your will or by means of a revocable trust. Bequests may be comprised of an estate, a percentage of an estate, or a specific cash amount. A bequest is an easy way to make a meaningful gift in support of Geriatrics.

Recommended bequest language:
I give to the University of California, San Francisco Foundation, a California nonprofit, public benefit corporation, [the sum of $_____ / ___% of the residue of my estate / the residue of my estate] to be used for the benefit of the Division of Geriatrics in such manner as the director shall determine.

Trusts

Charitable remainder trusts are gifts that provide income for life for the donor or a loved one. There are various types of charitable trusts.

Endowments

Endowed gifts are an enduring tribute to the beliefs and values of the donor. Because they may be given for a specific program and named for an honoree of the donor's choosing, they create a lasting, highly visible link between the individual for whom the endowment is named and the ongoing achievements of the program. The gift may be in the form of cash, securities, real property, or other assets. Tax-advantaged planned gifts such as pooled income funds, annuities, charitable remainder trusts and gifts under wills also are welcome.

Donating to Specific Programs

Housecalls Program

The Housecalls program provides primary care medical services to homebound elders in San Francisco while teaching the art of the housecall to the next generation of healthcare professionals. The program relies on donations and gifts to support their clinical and teaching programs.
