Geriatric Fellowships
GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT FELLOWSHIPS:
| Quick Links |
1. The UCSF Division of Geriatrics offers a variety of fellowship programs in clinical geriatrics and clinical education, research, and health care improvement.
2. The goal of the fellowship programs is to attract and develop future academic leaders, especially in the area of geriatric medicine and aging research. We seek individuals with exceptional talent, great interpersonal skills, and a strong drive to be at the forefront of advances in clinical medicine and research.
3. Opportunities are available for physicians, dentists, psychologists, epidemiologists, and other post-doctoral researchers. Most of these fellowship programs require prior experience with or interest in geriatric issues, while the Quality Scholars track is open to applicants with or without interest in clinical geriatrics.
4. Fellows are encouraged to develop skills in multiple areas. Many clinical fellows have elected to pursue an additional two or more years of research training. Similarly, some fellows who began with a completely research focus have elected to obtain training in clinical geriatrics. Ample funding opportunities are available to allow several years of training.
5. Prospective fellows who are uncertain of whether to pursue research and/or clinical training are strongly encouraged to contact the director of clinical fellowships, Dr. Michael Harper at Michael.Harper3@med.va.gov, and/or the director of research and health care improvement fellowships, Dr. Seth Landefeld at sethl@medicine.ucsf.edu, prior to or during the interview day. Of note, many of our clinical fellows have begun their training not having decided whether they want to pursue research, and we welcome exploration and further thought about these options during the clinical year.
