UCSF DIABETES, ENDOCRINOLOGY & METABOLISM TRAINING PROGRAM FACULTY RESEARCH SUMMARIES

CUMMINGS, STEVEN, M.D.

Department of Medicine, Epidemiology and Biostatistics

I am involved in several large epidemiologic studies of osteoporosis and women's health and direct multicenter trials in the prevention of fractures. These studies include the Study of Osteoporotic Fractures, the Osteoporosis in Men (Mr. OS) study, and the Multiple Outcomes of Raloxifene Evaluation (MORE) trial. We are currently pursuing research about the hormonal determinants of risk of breast cancer. Current major areas of investigation are in women's health, aging, prevention, clinical trials and research methods. Specific areas of work include epidemiology of osteoporosis and fractures, estrogen therapy, selective estrogen receptor modulators, and breast cancer.
