- What is your application deadline?
November 15, 2008 and we start reviewing September 1
- When do you interview?
During selected dates in December and January.
- What are your USMLE score requirements?
There are no minimum USMLE score requirements for application to the program. Candidates must have passed the USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 on first attempt.
- Does your program require U.S. clinical experience?
U.S. clinical experience is not required, however, applicants who graduated from medical school more than 2 years ago, must have patient-related clinical experience within the last 2 years from the date of application.
- Do you accept applications from international medical graduates (IMGs); also sometimes referred to as foreign medical graduates (FMGs)?
Yes.
- Do you have any international medical graduates in your program?
Not currently though we have had small numbers in the past.
- Do you sponsor the H1B1 visa?
Yes, rarely.
- What are my chances of getting into the program?
The UCSF Medicine Residency Program is a highly competitive program. We receive approximately 3000 applications for our 56 PGY-1 positions in our categorical and primary care programs. We are unable to determine a candidate's "chances" of getting in the program. Only completed applications with required supporting documents will be reviewed and evaluated by the selection committee
- When do I need to submit my California Medical Letter?
The "Applicant Evaluation Status Letter" from the California Medical Board is required for application to the program. The letter must be submitted at the time of application. The letter can be scanned either as an addendum to the Personal Statement or Letter of Recommendation in ERAS, or it can be faxed to (415) 502-1976.
