Faceplates

In order to find your faceplate number, follow the network cable at the back of your computer to where it plugs into the wall. Your network or ethernet cable looks like a phone cord, but with a larger plug. The faceplate should look something like this if you are on the Campus network or like this if you are on the Medical Center network

Host Name, Physical address, IP address

To get this information from a Windows machine, please follow these instructions:

  1. Go to your Start menu and select Run.
  2. In the open field, type cmd and click OK.
  3. In the DOS window that opens, type ipconfig /all and hit the enter button.

We need the Physical address and IP address, which will be listed under the heading Ethernet adapter and Local Area Connection. It should look something like this.

To get the network information from a Macintosh machine, please follow these instructions:

  1. Go to your Apple menu and select About this Mac.
  2. In the next window, choose the More Info button.
  3. In the window that opens, choose Network from the list in the left pane.
  4. In the upper right-hand pane, choose Built-in Ethernet.

From the lower right-hand pane, we need the IPv4 address and the MAC address. The MAC address will be listed under the heading Ethernet. It should look something like this.
