Operational Excellence and DOM IT Services
What is Operational Excellence (OE)?
UCSF launched the Operational Excellence (OE) initiative to help improve the excellence and efficiency of our key operational and administrative services while also reducing costs. Thanks to the expertise and hard work of more than 400 individuals across campus, we are making solid progress and are on track to meet our target of $50 million in annualized savings by June 2013.

What Does OE Mean to Me?
The IT services provided to the Department of Medicine will be changing, but not all at once. OE IT is being rolled out by service and functional area. In the Summer and Fall of 2010 OE IT groups made recommendations to the coordinating committee for Email, Network, Helpdesk and IT Procurement. These recommendations are being implemented now, and will affect the department in different ways. This Spring groups will be tackling Desktop Support and Data Centers, and in the Fall a group will be looking at Application Rationalization. Please read the following FAQs for more information on how OE will affect the services you receive. We'll keep adding information here, so check back often.
- Email — Exchange email, calendar and contact services
- Helpdesk — The phone number you call when you have a problem
- Network — How you access your email, servers and web sites
- IT Procurement — The computers and smartphones you buy, how you buy them and how much you pay for them
- Desktop Support — The field services technicians who come to your desk to fix your problems
- Data Centers — The server rooms where your web and file servers are hosted
- Application Rationalization — Making the applications we use work for everyone, and making sure we're not reinventing the wheel
For more information about Operational Excellence IT initiatives and how they will affect the entire campus please see the OE website's IT section.
